It is no secret that wastewater production is always increasing as a result of rising population, water consumption, and production capacity. Efforts to purify water are escalating, and new technologies are being developed at the same time. The most significant wastewater treatment technology available today that is also ecologically benign is biological purification. But few people are aware of the procedures to follow in order to maximize therapy effectiveness. You will learn in this article!

The efficiency of wastewater treatment can be increased!

The microorganisms that digest organic substances in wastewater perform the most significant role in biological treatment. Yes, but their rates of reproduction and purification are not constant. The temperature of the wastewater has a major impact on how well they work.

According to experts in the field of wastewater treatment, it is worth covering the surface of the treatment basins to prevent cleaning problems caused by inadequate temperatures.

The need for a cover layer is justified by the fact that the ideal temperature of the effluent is achieved and maintained. This not only helps and makes micro-organisms more productive but also brings significant cost savings.

There is only one question: what can be used to cover the wastewater pool?

Balls can help microorganisms work!

Cover balls are perfect for covering swimming pools, as they help to maintain the ideal temperature of the cleaning pools by forming a continuous insulating layer on top of the waste water.

Their use in winter can significantly reduce the risk of frost and provide an ideal temperature for micro-organisms, as the thermal insulation effect of the balls slows down the cooling process. In summer, the insulation makes it very difficult for the effluent to rise above 25°C.

For some treatment technologies, heating of wastewater during colder periods is unavoidable. In these cases, the use of outdoor blanket traps can save up to 75% on heating costs, as the floating layer of traps provides insulation and therefore energy losses are much lower.

Let the facts and figures speak for us!

In recent years we have had several projects where our partners have aimed to reduce the heating costs of wastewater pools.

One example is one of our partners in the food industry in Hungary. They bought our water-filled Bird Ball™ in two installments, so they could see for themselves how effective our solution is. The aim was to cover a total of four pools, two of which were covered with balls in the first round, while the other two were left uncovered. After months of testing, the effectiveness of the ball cover was proven, so there was no question of covering the other two pools.

In another project in Belgium, Bird Ball™ has also worked for heated swimming pools in a residential wastewater treatment plant, as the heating season has been shortened considerably.

For projects that save heating costs, the investment cost of the balls can ideally be recovered within a year, which is very advantageous as the balls come with a 10-year guarantee - but it is important to note that their lifetime is several times longer than the guarantee period. So you are guaranteed a quick return on investment and long-lasting cost savings with outdoor cover balls.

What is a cover ball?

The cover ball is a hollow high quality plastic ball that can be used to create a continuous cover layer on the surface of liquids. Depending on the amount of balls placed on a given surface, they can cover up 91% of the surface in a regular shape, self-arranging next to each other. This cover layer separates and isolates the open surface of the liquid from its surroundings, i.e. it significantly reduces the effect of the liquid on the environment and vice versa. In English, several names are used for these balls, often referred to as ‘shade ball’, ‘cover ball’, ‘armor ball’, ‘barrier ball’, or ‘bird ball’. We, as a proud European Manufacturer, call them cover ball and Bird Ball™.

How does it work? What can it be used for?

The cover balls have countless benefits, so it can be used in many diverse areas. Those advantages usually help our partners to achieve their goals for cost-saving, more efficient water management, safer work environment, environment and nature protection. Thus, the Bird Ball™ is an excellent solution for reducing evaporation, preserving water quality, preventing algae formation, keeping birds away, camouflaging the water surface, thermal insulation, reducing heating costs, reducing the release of toxic gases and vapors, reducing unpleasant odors, covering hazardous materials and many more, where cost savings or other beneficial effects can be achieved as a result of use.
